Furnishings in the home and office, especially the less expensive ones, are no longer made mostly of natural materials, but are composed of synthetics that are held together with a variety of glues and resins. Multi-density fibreboard (MDF) is often used instead of natural wood. There can be a buildup of gases given off by these synthetic materials, especially when new, as well as computers, photocopiers and other electronic devices.
